Academic Freedom and the Democratic University
Commissioning editor: Linda McGrath
Series editors: Katja Brøgger, Tamara Kamatovic, and Michael Kozakowski
The Academic Freedom and the Democratic University series presents high-quality, multidisciplinary research on the university as a democratic institution in engagement with democratic societies. Bringing together scholarship from fields including higher education research, law, political science, policy and governance studies, women and gender studies, and the history, theory, and practice of education, the series explores key themes such as academic freedom and institutional autonomy, democratic and student-centered teaching and learning, civic and social engagement, and universities’ resilience in times of crisis. In a context of mounting pressures on higher education and democratic backsliding in many parts of the world, the series provides an academic platform for rigorous scholarship examining the role of universities in sustaining democratic values, critical knowledge production, and socially responsive institutions. The series welcomes proposals for both monographs and edited volumes.
